For vacationers seeking an extra special vacation with family or friends, Grand Rivers, Kentucky is an uncrowded and exciting destination with plenty to do and see within just a few miles of your private rental cabin. Grand Rivers is an excellent hub of outdoor adventure activity, surrounded by stunning scenery and unique local businesses and restaurants.
Cabins, cottages, lodges and homes in Grand Rivers, KY, can enjoy live entertainment, fishing on two of the United States’ largest man-made lakes, challenging golf courses, shopping, or even a day at the spa. Grand Rivers is also known as the Village Between the Lakes, and offers easy access to 170,000 acres of protected adventureland at the Land Between the Lakes National Outdoor Recreation Area.
There are numerous ways to explore Grand Rivers’ lovely waterways, whether your cottage rental has a view of the lakes or not. The two man-made lakes — Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley — combine to form the largest body of water between the Gulf and the Great Lakes, covering more than 210,000 acres. Popular water-based activities at Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake include everything from fishing and boating to aerial helicopter tours, and everything in between. And Grand Rivers is the only city with access to both spots!
Freshwater fishing in the area is abundant and varied, with sport fish including sauger, bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish. Vacationers can also enjoy fishing from land or boat on and along Kentucky’s lakes and other waterways, such as the canal that connects Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, and the tailwaters of both dams. Local guide services are available to help you navigate the best fishing holes in the region; or, if you already know you’re way around, check out the local boat rental and equipment suppliers for the best in Alumacraft fishing boats, paddle boats, tow toys and other water toys.
While you enjoy the view from deck — or from the back deck of your cabin rental — keep an eye out for wildlife on the banks. Grand Rivers and the surrounding wilderness areas are home to elk and bison, deer, beaver, bald eagles, osprey and other migratory birds. You may even take an afternoon to pay a visit to the Woodlands Nature Station, where you can view live animal exhibits and other wildlife enthusiast programs.
Outdoor lovers can also plan on exploring the area’s scenic hiking and biking trails. Grand Rivers, Kentucky is an access point to more than 200 miles of nature trails, open to hiking, biking, horseback riding and ATVs. Year-round paths like the Grand Rivers Walking Trail, the Canal Loop, the Honker Bay Trail, the Hematite Lake Trail, and the Hardwood Scenic Trail are the perfect spot for walking and jogging, with woodlands and lake views to break up the physical work. Meanwhile, the Turkey Bay OHV and ATV Trails are great for those looking to see the landscape at higher speeds.
